Hello fellow travelers. How has 2023 started off for you? Have you made any big travel plans this year or did you take any exciting vacations last year? Our most recent adventure took us to a little hidden gem in Mexico called Zihuatanejo. The first time we ever experienced Zihuatanejo was two years ago in 2021. A good friend of mine had told me about this place, which I had never heard of .We had made plans to go together but unfortunately, she and her significant other were not able to go, so my husband and I went.

Zihuatanejo is in southwestern Mexico in the state of Guerrero and its city lies along the Pacific side. Zihuatanejo has a neighboring city called Ixtapa, which is lined with beautiful beaches and luxurious resorts. The city of Zihuatanejo lies more in a cove, where the fisherman’s boats and guided boat tours roam the peaceful sea. It is a quaint, charming little city.

We chose to stay in a boutique hotel that overlooked the bay.It had a stunning view of the surrounding city , which lit up the night sky after dark.We had a beautiful suite that had a private swimming pool on the balcony. What a treat that was! Our own private paradise. We spent fun-filled days soaking up the sun, lying on the beach drinking tropical delights and just taking our time to relax and unwind.

We took up some sightseeing and went to some islands off the coast of Ixtapa, to watch sea turtles. On this guided tour, we made friends with the guide named Ron. He took the time to explain the history of the city and how it came to be. He also shared some interesting facts that are not of general knowledge to most tourists and natives. We enjoyed the flavorful food of mom-and-pop restaurants and went shopping along the main boulevard of shops that catered to tourists. We also found little hidden stores that offered handmade goods, in small corridors within the city.

It was a sensational vacation! We went back in 2022 and kept in touch with Ron, who we are now friends with. On our second visit, we chose to stay in Ixtapa, in an all-inclusive resort which was exceptional. We also brought my in-laws 🙂 If you ever get the chance to go to Zihuatanejo, you should definitely take the opportunity to. It is a well-kept secret along the beautiful coastline of southwest Mexico, that we will be going back to year after year. Let me know if you’ve gone on any exotic vacations this year. See you next time!
